These four large bronze figures of captives represent the nations whose defeat by France led to the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678-1679. Spain is an ardent young man looking hopefully to the sky, the Dutch Republic a man in the prime of life with fierce, rebellious expression, Branderburg a mature figure full of sadness, and the Holy Roman Empire a dejected old man. The helmets, shields and halberds are evocations of ancient triumphs. Our figures are made by hand using high quality natural marble stone therefor each piece is unique and may slightly be different in shape and color.
