The bust is in the form of a herma and was commissioned in 1827 by Karoline von Rehfues’s husband, the author Philip von Rehfues, who was 20 years her senior. The bust of the beautiful young woman is given a romantic touch in that she is portrayed with a garland of flowers in her long, curled coiffure.
