Paul Cabet was a French sculptor who witnessed the heroic fightings in Dijon during the 1870 war.

His statue Mil Huit cent soixante et onze shows his approach to 1871, the year that France fought in the Franco-Prussian war, leading to the collpase of the Second French Empire and the forming of the French Third Republic.
