This is a copy of a larger papal bust ascribed to the sculptor Domenico Guidi (1625-1701). Three other versions of this portrait exist in their entirety and can be found at The Victoria and Albert Museum, London and in terracotta at the Los Angeles County Museum.
Domenico Guidi was a pupil of Alessandro Algardi (1595-1654), one of the leading Baroque sculptors in Rome.
