This bust was believed to represent Cardinal Francesco Barberini and attributed to Bernini’s workshop (M. Krohn ‘Journal of Art Science’, I, 1916, pp. 59). Other busts very similar in style have also been attributed to Ottoni, such as the bust of Cardinal Orazio Mattei in S. Francesco a Ripa.

However, this bust represents none of the Cardinals known at the time. It is most likely to be of Barberini.
