The French sculptor Auguste Clésinger spent much of his life in Rome where he produced a series of types of bust depicting a similar character, such as this work in 1857. He is particularly noted for the creation of sensual subjects in marble, such as this obviously inebriated Bacchante, a female companion of Bacchus, the Roman god of wine.

Our figures are made by hand using high quality natural marble stone therefor each piece is unique and may slightly be different in shape and color.
